Experiment w/ Mono Printing
Led by Christine Willis
$40
In this experimental mono print class, participants use Gelli plates and acrylic paint to create unique prints. To create prints, acrylic paint is applied to the plate and spread with a brayer. Designs can be added by using stencils, anything you can think of with texture, or even your fingers. I will have a large assortment of objects you can use along with materials to make your own stamp designs. Once the design is set, a piece of paper is pressed onto the painted surface, smoothed out, and then pulled away to reveal the print. This hands-on technique emphasizes experimentation, allowing for spontaneous and unique outcomes in every print.
These test prints can serve as the perfect material for layering in mixed-media art. Additionally, the final prints can be further enhanced by adding pen and ink details or collage elements on top, allowing for endless creative possibilities and the evolution of each piece. The class encourages experimentation and continuous exploration through different materials and techniques.

ACM Poetry Salon: 20th Century Voices
Led by: Gary Roberts
Free
Learn about modern poetry with short poems from some of the most celebrated writers of the twentieth century. We’ll listen to or read the poems, share initial impressions, and discuss whatever questions or themes emerge. The texts will be provided at the meeting—no homework required!
This free salon-style series welcomes everyone—whether you’re well-versed in poetry or simply curious. Drop in for one session or all; each 90-minute meetup stands on its own. Prior experience with poetry will be helpful but isn’t required. An interest in innovative techniques, tolerance for ambiguity, and appreciation of different points of view will also be helpful.
Emphasis will be given to poets who bore witness to social upheaval and shaped modern literature with their responses to historical events. We will take a global perspective and include many writers in different languages who have been translated into English. Brief introductions to the poets will be offered, but no stuffy lectures; we’ll make connections and discoveries together through our sharing of questions and observations.
Hosted by Gary Roberts, a poet and co-founder of Arts Collaborative Medford, as part of our literary arts initiative. Bring your coffee, tea, or notebook and join us for a relaxed, open conversation about how poetry can reflect, resist, and reimagine the world around us.
Registration is requested, but not required.

Community Indigo Dye Vat
Indigo is a millennia old plant dye that can create a wide range of blue hues. During his lab style workshop participants are invited to bring their own clothing items and fabric to dye in the indigo vat.
Note: This an open indigo dye vat session, not a teaching workshop. I will demonstrate some simple shibori folding techniques and provide twine for simple binding but will not provide tools for more in depth sibori. This workshop is designed for you to dip, ombre your fabric or use simple folding.
You will be provided with the dye, rubber gloves, and a plastic bag to transport your dyed items.
Bring your own Dyeables information:
Participants are invited to bring up to 3 items to dye.
The indigo vat is a 5 gallon bucket, so no large items like sweatshirts or jackets can be fully submerged into the bucket.
Materials must be pre-washed in hot water and dried without fabric softener prior to the class.
All materials must be 100% natural (no synthetics: acrylic, polyester, etc)
Examples of dyeable materials: Cotton, linen, rayon, hemp, canvas, cotton socks, cotton t-shirts, cotton bandanas, cotton yarn. The indigo vat is iron based so it suitable to dye silk or wool. The PH is too high and could damage the fibers.
Indigo can be used to overdye already dyed clothing and fiber. For best results use undyed, white, or pale - medium colored clothing and fiber (yellow, pink, light blue, green, etc.) Have a favorite light shirt with a stain? Indigo is a great way to give new life to it.
Dyeable materials (tea towel and bandanas) will be available for sale

Collage as a Door to the Poetic Surreal
Led By Leticia Priebe
$20 for workshop
This generative workshop pairs the visual art form of collage with collage poetry.
Participants will walk away with their own hand-crafted collage and the seeds of poems, deeper knowledge and experience with a visual art form, and a found poetry technique to exercise in their practice.
Introduction to Collage as a Visual Art Form: I will briefly introduce the concept of collage as a visual art form, its ties to Dadaist & Surrealist art movements, and how the process of collaging parallels writing a poem. I will provide examples of collages from both world-renowned and local artists to help get participants in a mindset that explores the possibilities of collage. The main takeaway from this segment is that collages give us a doorway into the surreal, which can fuel the imagination and many poems.
Introduction of Collage Poetry: Following context on collage as a visual art form, I will transition to briefly introducing the concept of collage poetry, how this poetic technique mirrors the visual art form, and provide examples of collage poems. I will highlight the principles of found poetry and its artistic value as both a source of inspiration and a legitimate poetic output.
Selection of Collage Materials: Equipped with context about collages and college poetry, participants will be given approximately 15 minutes to select images, materials, and text that they find compelling. They will have magazines, newspapers, pamphlets, scraps, stickers, and other materials to choose from. Chipboard canvases will be provided. Additionally, I will encourage participants to look at any writing drafts that they were not satisfied with or notes that they’ve taken and repurpose them for this exercise—picking out images, language, or phrases that can be recontextualized for collage. This is an exciting process of discovery that helps participants lean into their aesthetic preferences and intuition.
Generative Segment-Collages & Poetry: Once materials are selected, participants will be given time to create their visual collages and compose the seeds of an accompanying poem. Participants can choose to incorporate their poems or lines from the poems on the collages directly or not. The collage materials they previously selected serve as an individualized writing prompt for each participant. Near the end of our time, I will give participants the opportunity to share what they have created with the group, whether it is lines from their collage poems, the collage itself, or both.

Every Drop Counts
A Mosaic Project to Combat Forever Chemicals
Led by Susan Altman
Free & Open to the Public
INSTALLATION SESSION
10.12
Over the past few weeks, many of you have designed and made your own beautiful mosaic water drops. It is now time for these many parts to be installed together! On the morning of October 12th, Susan will used the individual mosaics to create a mural outside ACM’s front door. This new public art piece will build awareness and activism to reduce the use of PFAS, or “forever chemicals.” You are invited to join in the installation!
PFAS chemicals make products water-repellant, grease-resistant, and/or heat tolerant, and they are found in thousands of consumer products. They last a very long time, are found in almost everyone’s body, and can accumulate to dangerously high levels. They are linked to many serious health problems, and PFAS pollution can be much worse in environmental justice communities.
In this project you will learn more about forever chemicals, some steps you can take to avoid them, and ways to fight their use in consumer products.

Can't join for all three sessions? That's ok! You can still drop in for the price of one class ($60). Rather than creating your own lino-cut, you can choose from the instructor's collection of wooden block prints and create your own design. This applies to 10/8 and 10/15.
Knowledge required: This class is beginner-friendly. Age 14+ with an adult
What you'll get: You’ll take home a custom-designed linocut printing block that you can use again and again, a set of greeting cards + a tote bag, tea towel or bandana.

Every Drop Counts
A Mosaic Project to Combat Forever Chemicals
Led by Susan Altman
Free & Open to the Public
*Registration Required. There is a minimum registration count of 5 for the session to run and you will receive a confirmation or notice of cancellation before the event.
Final Drop In Sessions
10.01
Design and make your own beautiful mosaic water drops, which will join many others as part of a mural outside ACM’s front door. This new public art piece will build awareness and activism to reduce the use of PFAS, or “forever chemicals.”

Stretch Bracelet Workshop
Saturday September 7, 1-3pm
$25
Taught by Sarah Beardslee
Create a stretch bracelet that is uniquely your own, using beads of many different materials, including glass, metal, and more! This is a fabulous workshop for all ages, and a great way to learn a technique to make jewelry as gifts for the upcoming holidays. You will leave the class with at least one bracelet completed, with the potential to make mutliple bracelets during the workshop time. All materials will be provided, and no prior experience is necessary.
