Mosaic Flower Pot Workshop

Led by Susan Altman

This is a two-session class scheduled on Monday March 17, and Monday March 24.

For adults (over 18) only.

Decorate a 6” terracotta pot with your own mosaic design that you can keep outdoors in summer and bring inside for the winter.

First session: Learn the basics of adhesives for outdoor mosaics and an easy way to apply mosaic tiles to a curved surface. Start designing your pot. The instructor will mix up some thinset (adhesive) and show you how to apply it.

Second session: Finish design, mix adhesive, and apply mosaics. Your piece will be ready for grouting by the end of the session.

What to know ahead of time:

One 6” terracotta pot, primed and ready to mosaic, will be supplied to each participant. You can bring a second clean clay or ceramic pot (not more than 8” at the maximum diameter) if you work fast and think you could make a second one, or if you would prefer to decorate your own.

Wear clothes you don’t mind getting stained.

Disposable nitrile gloves will be provided for working with thinset. Working barehanded is messy and dries out your skin but is not harmful otherwise, if you dislike wearing gloves.

Your piece will need to be grouted for protection, which will not happen during this class. Instructions will be provided should you wish to do this on your own, or you are welcome to join a ACM grouting workshop (separate listing).
